Bishop's 2010 Christmas Message
My Dear Brothers and Sisters,Many of the stories we read about in preparation for Christmas deal with expectation. Prophets like Isaiah proclaim the coming anointed one, the Magi follow signs in the sky and a young mother in a small Palestinian village waits for her child to be born.
Yet, one of the wonders of the season is that God took on humanity in the most unlikely, the most unexpected form: the infinite King of Glory born to poor peasants in a cave that housed animals.
I like that Christ overthrew our expectations. It reminds me that this is how the Holy Spirit often works in our lives. Suddenly the relative or friend we haven't heard from in years contacts us or the child we felt would never come back to the church joins us for Christmas Mass.
Let's try to expect the unexpected. Let us be attentive to the workings of our mysterious Lord who comes in the night as a vulnerable child. May you have a Spirited-filled Christmas and a blessed New Year.
God bless you.
