Bishop's Statement Concerning Ballot Measure 2

CATHOLIC BISHOP OF NORTHERN ALASKA

1316 Peger Road

Fairbanks, Alaska 99709

OFFICE OF THE BISHOP

August 4, 2010

My Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Ballot Measure 2 is on the state primary ballot scheduled for August 24, 2010. If passed, it would require doctors to notify parents of children under 18 before they would be allowed to end their pregnancy by abortion. This non-partisan citizen's initiative recognizes and protects the natural and legal rights of parents to guide and protect their children. It supports and respects the value of human beings from the beginning of conception.

Included with this letter I have enclosed:

1. a bulletin announcement

2. a post Communion announcement

3. an information fact sheet.

I ask that all parishes of the diocese present these announcements on the weekends before the August 24th vote. I also ask that you include the information fact sheet in your parish bulletins or make copies for your parishioners. This fact sheet will also provide key information should you desire to preach about this issue.

I urge all our Catholic people to support parental rights and the health and welfare of the young girls of our families by voting YES on Ballot Measure 2 on August 24th.

Thank you and may God bless you.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Bishop Donald Kettler
