Bishop's 2008 Christmas Message

This is Bishop Donald Kettler,

Many times the Church calendar is pictured as a wheel. That is because we cycle through the seasons year after year. In one way this is good, we enjoy a rich tradition that stretches back over two thousand years. But we must be careful not to grow forgetful of the uniqueness of each day.

Christmas is a good time to remember we get a fresh start every time the sun rises. Christ in the manger, the breaking of God's infinite love and mercy into our limited world, is like that sunrise.

This year I am especially sensitive to this revelation. As we move to file a plan of reorganization for the diocese I pray we can soon put the legal and financial aspects of our dark past behind us. I look forward to reaching out to all who feel harmed by that past and begin restoring trust to all of God's people.

Join me in praying for healing and reconciliation as we celebrate the radiant birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

May God bless you and your families during our celebration of Christmas and the coming New Year.

Bishop Donald J. Kettler
