Bishop's 2010 Easter Message

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The long days of fasting and penance are ending; the transforming light of the Good News is breaking upon us. In so many ways, we can shout with joy: Christ is Risen.

This Easter however, this Church's march to Calvary continues even after we proclaim the Lord's resurrection.

As you will know, this diocese is in the process expressing its contrition to those who were harmed by our ministers, volunteers and employees. As the people's shepherd I am meeting with our wounded brothers and sisters, telling them how very sorry we are that we failed them and listening closely as they express their pain and tell us how we can restore trust.

Yes, Easter is a time of rejoicing, but this season and for many to come, it will remain a period of repentance and contrition.

Please pray for me, for all those harmed by the Church in any way; and pray for Christ's mercy on us all.
